Computer Studies

At SCITS, Computer Studies students design and develop software using programming languages such as Java, Visual C++, Visual Basic, Flash ActionScript, Turing, and others. Students are provided with copies of most of this software for home use according to the license agreements purchased (Visual Studio 2010 Express Editions, Turing, Ready To Program with Java Technology, BlueJ, and ActionScript). Students are first exposed to computer programming in the grade nine open Exploring Technologies course, can choose to take the grade ten open Computer Studies course, and then many choose to take the two senior college/university courses in Computer Programming. Every year several students graduate from SCITS to pursue Computer Studies at a post-secondary level.

Visual Basic is one of the programs used in Computer Programming courses.

Students learn to create games like this one using ActionScript in Adobe Flash CS4.

Computer Studies and Computer Technology students build and program robots like this Lego Mindstorms NXT Robot.
